Freeride touring in Canada

28.02.2021 - 13.03.2021

Due to the Covid-19 situation, in the following ski season 2020/21 we guarantee full refund in case of cancelation caused by the restriction or ban. Please do book the flights with cancelation insurance to protect your money fully. Lets' hope for the best but be ready for worse!

Revelstoke, Rogers Pass and the Kootenays in British Columbia are big names in freeride circles. So how about a trip taking in some of the best backcountry, touring/splitboarding, cat-skiing and resort off-piste in this part of Canada?

This 2 week trip is a powder lovers dream. Expect to have to put in some leg work – after all the best lines are rarely free. In the area you can ride everything from cruisy powder bowls to steep couloirs and tree runs to cliff drops, ultimately if you like it steep and deep (or just deep!) this place will have frothing at the mouth with excitement.

Spend some time in the resort of Revelstoke taking advantage of the lifts for easy powder, plus head out of bounds under your own steam. The trip also includes a few days in a hut/lodge deep in the backcountry totally isolated from the real world, where the mountains will be your personal playground free to explore as far as your legs will take you.

As with any Snowbusters adventure, we won’t just guide you to the best lines, we also teach you the skills you need to stay safe and ride with more style. We’ll cover avalanche safety, practice rescue situations and address deficiencies in your technique.

The final itinerary depends on the conditions and weather. However, we’ll fit in some ski touring or splitboarding, cat-skiing, lift accessible off-piste both in- and out-bounds and, of course, squeeze in the time to down a few jars. We will visit the following areas:

Safety & Avalanches

During the week or two will spend a lot of time learning about safety in the mountains. Specifically, how to avoid an avalanche through understanding conditions, reading snow profiles and simple snow stability tests. You’ll learn how to perform an avalanche rescue if things go wrong along with some useful first aid.

Although there is some theory, most of it is taught in real life situations on the mountain. Snowbusters will demonstrate how to organize a group avalanche rescue and you’ll take part in plenty of simulations. This includes multiple backfilling, digging victims and hypothermic treatment.

Revelstoke

Just over a decade old, Revelstoke in British Columbia has earned a reputation as one of the best off-piste and ski touring destinations on the planet. With over 1,670m of vertical, over 12 million square metres of terrain and around 12m of snow each winter it’s a freeride paradise.

Using Revelstoke’s efficient lifts you can reach vast amounts of in-bounds avalanche controlled terrain. If you want more attach your skins and tour or splitboard outside the ski areas boundaries to enjoy the stunning backcountry on offer.

Rogers Pass

Less than an hour from Revelstoke is Roger’s Pass in the Selkirk mountains. Using the Trans Canada highway you can get easy access and cheap elevation, making it the destinations that most Revelstoke locals go for their backcountry fix. With big snow, steep slopes and plenty of lines it is a freeriders dream.

Kootenay Pass

Around 4 hours south of Revelstoke on Highway 3A you’ll find some of the most varied and fun backcountry on the planet. Kootenay Pass takes you to around 1785m and from there you can tour or splitboard around 25 well documented routes that offer everything a powder junkie desires.

Join Snowbusters for a Canadian backcountry adventure in British Columbia. Your only regret will be why you didn’t visit sooner.
