The Accursed Mountains — Bjeshkët e Namuna in Albanian — straddle the Kosovo-Albania-Montenegro border. A range so rugged that legend says it was cursed by the devil himself. Wolves and bears roam the valleys. The Adriatic is less than 100km away, driving consistent maritime snowstorms onto 2,500m peaks that almost nobody skis — a wilderness far beyond the reach of conventional ski tourism.
Snowbusters runs this expedition from Gacaferi Guest House, a mountain lodge at 1,840m on the Kosovar side. It combines the efficiency of cat-skiing with the adventure of ski touring: the snowcat gets you deep into the range in the morning, without spending the day on the approach, and in the afternoon you skin beyond where the cat can reach — from steep couloirs to open powder fields, on varied aspects for quality snow whatever the weather. Expect 1,200–2,000m of daily vertical, depending on conditions and group ability.
Each day is planned to maximise quality riding time while minimising exhaustion. The guides analyse weather, snow conditions and group energy to pick the zones, and when conditions permit we venture to descents like Hajla and Gjeravica — terrain that sees fewer than a dozen riders each season.

The cat is not a gimmick: it gets you deep into the range fast, without spending the day on the approach. In the afternoon you skin beyond where the cat can reach. All cat-skiing access fees are included.
Remote, unpatrolled terrain far beyond the reach of conventional ski tourism, on lines that see very few riders each winter.
The expedition's signature descent, conditions permitting. Snowcat as high as conditions allow, skin and bootpack to the ridge, then around 1,200m of freeride terrain back down from the highest peak entirely within Kosovo.
Kosovo, Albania and Montenegro meet on a single ridge. The guides take you along it, and you ski descents into two countries in one day.
Jany or Adam from Snowbusters plus a local guide, usually as lead and tail. The group can be split by level, fitness or wishes. Daily snowpack and avalanche assessment, full companion rescue capability and emergency communication equipment.
Test DOWN's latest freeride and touring skis on terrain that has never had a lift or a grooming machine. The ultimate real-world test.

Freeriders F2 to F3, Touring T1 ← This Expedition
F2 to F3 freeriders with touring experience (T1), not piste-only skiers or snowboarders. You are proficient with avalanche safety gear and touring equipment, and adapt to anything from deep powder to wind-affected snow. Ideal if you want technical growth, big-mountain skills and real cultural immersion with your powder.
Powder Hunters ← This Expedition
Riders who want remote, empty terrain and are happy to earn their turns: snowcat access in the mornings, touring beyond it in the afternoons, and lines far from any ski resort.
Piste Only, F1 or T0 — Not Ready
The Accursed Mountains are remote, unpatrolled and serious, and off-piste and touring experience is required. Start with our Intro into Ski Touring & Splitboarding course or Deep & Steep Austria first — then come back for this.
Snowcat + Touring Access

- Afternoon touring beyond the cat's reach

Land in Pristina, Enter the Balkans
Fly into Pristina International Airport (PRN), Kosovo's main gateway, with connections from major European cities. The group meets and takes the shared transfer — a scenic 2.5-hour drive via Peja (Peć), the gateway town to the Accursed Mountains — up to Gacaferi Guest House. Avalanche safety briefing over a traditional Kosovar dinner, with the mountains outside the window. Tomorrow the cat picks you up.
The Cat Arrives — The Accursed Opens
The snowcat collects the group for its first ascent. Companion rescue drills in the snowfield, then the guides lead calibration runs — reading the mountain, assessing the snowpack and choosing the week's safest, most rewarding approach to the terrain. In the afternoon, skins on for the first tour beyond the cat's reach.
North-Facing Bowls, Cold Maritime Powder
The Adriatic's maritime influence produces dense, consistent snowfall that piles cold and light on the north-facing bowls above Gacaferi. Day 3 targets these aspects — wide-open descents with snow that often sits undisturbed for days. The snowcat repositions the group between bowls in the morning; in the afternoon we tour to the untracked bowls beyond.
Gjeravica 2,656m — Kosovo's Crown
Conditions permitting, Day 4 is the Gjeravica summit push — the highest point entirely within Kosovo at 2,656m. The snowcat climbs as high as conditions allow, then we skin and bootpack to the ridge. From the top, the descent covers around 1,200m of sustained freeride terrain: the expedition's signature descent.
Ski Kosovo, Land in Albania
The ridge where Kosovo, Albania and Montenegro converge sits above the expedition's home terrain. Day 5 crosses it — the guides lead the group along the Kosovo-Albania ridgeline and descend the Albanian side into pristine north-facing terrain that has never seen a lift. The snowcat loops around to collect the group for the return.
Accursed Couloirs — Where It Gets Serious
The Accursed Mountains' glacier-carved limestone creates a network of steep, sustained couloirs that drain into powder fields below. Day 6 targets these when the snowpack allows — guide-assessed snowpack, one-at-a-time descents, and landings in some of the deepest snow of the week. Steep entry and powder exit.
Every Best Line, One Last Time
The final riding day belongs to the group. Riders vote on the week's standout runs and the guides build a day around the collective choice — the summit descent again if conditions allow, the powder bowls from Day 3, or the couloirs from Day 6. The last run of the expedition ends at the guest house with a celebration dinner.
Peja Old Town, Then the World
Final breakfast at the guest house, then the shared transfer back to Pristina for international flights. If time allows, a stop in Peja (Peć) on the way — the old bazaar, a final coffee in a stone-walled kafé and the Patriarchate of Peć.
Expedition Safety
Without Compromise

Remote. Serious. Safe.
The Accursed Mountains are remote, unpatrolled and far from rescue services, which makes our safety protocols non-negotiable: two guides on every riding day, a daily snowpack and avalanche assessment, full group companion rescue capability, and emergency communication equipment carried at all times.
There is usually a lead guide and a tail guide. The group can be split when levels, fitness or wishes differ, if that is needed or wanted.
The steep terrain described on this page, including the couloirs of up to 35–40° and the Gjeravica summit, is the maximum, not a promise for every week. Conditions come first, then the level and wishes of the group, and nobody is pushed onto a line they are not comfortable with.
Travel and medical insurance is not included. We recommend Alpenverein (Austrian Alpine Club) insurance, which covers mountain rescue costs — check that your cover includes backcountry skiing in Kosovo and Albania.
