The Accursed
Cat-Ski
Expedition
Three full days of cat-skiing, then three days of morning cat drop-offs and free touring into Albania and Montenegro, in the Accursed Mountains (Bjeshkët e Namuna), some of Europe's least-skied terrain. Two guides, a mountain guest house at 1,840m, full board and transfers included.

The Accursed Mountains — Bjeshkët e Namuna in Albanian — straddle the Kosovo-Albania-Montenegro border. A range so rugged that legend says it was cursed by the devil himself. Wolves and bears roam the valleys. The Adriatic is less than 100km away, driving consistent maritime snowstorms onto 2,500m peaks that almost nobody skis — a wilderness far beyond the reach of conventional ski tourism.
Snowbusters runs this expedition from Gacaferi Guest House, a mountain lodge at 1,840m on the Kosovar side. It combines the efficiency of cat-skiing with the adventure of ski touring: three full days of cat-skiing, then three days when the cat drops you on the mountain in the morning and you tour on into the mountains on the Albanian and Montenegrin sides that it cannot reach, from steep couloirs to open powder fields, on varied aspects for quality snow whatever the weather. If possible, one optional night in a hut in Albania lets us ski Maja Kershit and around. Expect 1,200–2,000m of daily vertical, depending on conditions and group ability.
Each day is planned to maximise quality riding time while minimising exhaustion. The guides analyse weather, snow conditions and group energy to pick the zones, and when conditions permit we venture to descents like Hajla and Gjeravica — terrain that sees fewer than a dozen riders each season.

Three full days of cat-skiing, then three days when the cat drops you on the mountain in the morning and you tour from there into terrain it cannot reach. All cat-skiing access fees are included.
Remote, unpatrolled terrain far beyond the reach of conventional ski tourism, on lines that see very few riders each winter.
The expedition's signature descent, conditions permitting. Snowcat as high as conditions allow, skin and bootpack to the ridge, then around 1,200m of freeride terrain back down from the highest peak entirely within Kosovo.
Kosovo, Albania and Montenegro meet on a single ridge. On the touring days we ski the mountains on the Albanian and Montenegrin sides that the cat cannot reach, with one optional night in a hut in Albania if possible, to ski Maja Kershit and around.
Jany or Adam from Snowbusters plus a local guide, usually as lead and tail. The group can be split by level, fitness or wishes. Daily snowpack and avalanche assessment, full companion rescue capability and emergency communication equipment.
Test DOWN's latest freeride and touring skis on terrain that has never had a lift or a grooming machine. The ultimate real-world test.

Freeriders F2 to F3, Touring T1 ← This Expedition
F2 to F3 freeriders with touring experience (T1), not piste-only skiers or snowboarders. You are proficient with avalanche safety gear and touring equipment, and adapt to anything from deep powder to wind-affected snow. Ideal if you want technical growth, big-mountain skills and real cultural immersion with your powder.
Powder Hunters ← This Expedition
Riders who want remote, empty terrain and are happy to earn their turns: three full days of cat-skiing, three days of cat drop-offs and free touring, and lines far from any ski resort.
Piste Only, F1 or T0 — Not Ready
The Accursed Mountains are remote, unpatrolled and serious, and off-piste and touring experience is required. Start with our Intro into Ski Touring & Splitboarding course or Deep & Steep Austria first — then come back for this.
Snowcat + Touring Access
- 3 days of full cat-skiing in remote high-elevation zones
- 3 days of morning cat drop-offs and free touring beyond the cat's reach
- 1,200–2,000m of daily vertical, depending on conditions and group ability
- Steep couloirs to open powder bowls, on varied aspects for the best snow
Expert Guiding & Coaching
- Two guides on every riding day: Jany or Adam from Snowbusters, plus a local guide
- Usually a lead guide and a tail guide; the group can be split by level, fitness or wishes
- Daily snowpack and weather assessment, with a full companion rescue refresh on the first riding day
- Technical coaching with daily video analysis
Gacaferi Guest House
- Seven nights at 1,840m in an authentic mountain lodge (one can be an optional hut night in Albania)
- Full board — hearty Balkan cuisine from local ingredients
- Wood-fired heating and a communal backcountry atmosphere
- Spectacular mountain views from every room
Land in Pristina, Enter the Balkans
Fly into Pristina International Airport (PRN), Kosovo's main gateway, with connections from major European cities. The group meets and takes the shared transfer — a scenic 2.5-hour drive via Peja (Peć), the gateway town to the Accursed Mountains — up to Gacaferi Guest House. Avalanche safety briefing over a traditional Kosovar dinner, with the mountains outside the window. Tomorrow the cat picks you up.
The Cat Arrives — The Accursed Opens
The snowcat collects the group for its first ascent. Companion rescue drills in the snowfield, then the guides lead calibration runs — reading the mountain, assessing the snowpack and choosing the week's safest, most rewarding approach to the terrain. The cat keeps lapping all day.
North-Facing Bowls, Accursed Couloirs
The Adriatic's maritime influence produces dense, consistent snowfall that piles cold and light on the north-facing bowls above Gacaferi. Wide-open descents, with the snowcat repositioning the group between bowls. When the snowpack allows, we add the steep couloirs that drain into the powder fields below: guide-assessed, one at a time, steep entry and powder exit.
Gjeravica 2,656m — Kosovo's Crown
Conditions permitting, Day 4 is the Gjeravica summit push — the highest point entirely within Kosovo at 2,656m. The snowcat climbs as high as conditions allow, then we skin and bootpack to the ridge. From the top, the descent covers around 1,200m of sustained freeride terrain: the expedition's signature descent. Afterwards, back to cat laps.
Beyond the Cat, Toward Montenegro
From today the cat is your morning lift: it drops the group on the mountain and leaves. From there it is skins on and free touring into the mountains on the Montenegrin side, terrain the cat cannot reach, with the guides choosing the line by the day's snow and weather.
Over the Ridge, Into Albania
The cat drops the group on the mountain and we tour over to the Albanian side, into pristine terrain that has never seen a lift. If possible, this is the start of the optional overnight: those who want it stay in a hut in Albania to ski Maja Kershit and around the next day. Everyone else, or everyone if the hut is not possible, tours back to Gacaferi.
Maja Kershit, One Last Big Day
With a night in the hut behind us, conditions permitting, we ski Maja Kershit and the terrain around it, then make our way back to Gacaferi. If the hut did not happen, the cat drops us in the morning and the guides pick the best free touring of the week on the Albanian or Montenegrin side. The last run of the expedition ends with a celebration dinner at the guest house.
Peja Old Town, Then the World
Final breakfast at the guest house, then the shared transfer back to Pristina for international flights. If time allows, a stop in Peja (Peć) on the way — the old bazaar, a final coffee in a stone-walled kafé and the Patriarchate of Peć.
Expedition Safety
Without Compromise

Remote. Serious. Safe.
The Accursed Mountains are remote, unpatrolled and far from rescue services, which makes our safety protocols non-negotiable: two guides on every riding day, a daily snowpack and avalanche assessment, full group companion rescue capability, and emergency communication equipment carried at all times.
There is usually a lead guide and a tail guide. The group can be split when levels, fitness or wishes differ, if that is needed or wanted.
The steep terrain described on this page, including the couloirs of up to 35–40° and the Gjeravica summit, is the maximum, not a promise for every week. Conditions come first, then the level and wishes of the group, and nobody is pushed onto a line they are not comfortable with.
Travel and medical insurance is not included. We recommend Alpenverein (Austrian Alpine Club) insurance, which covers mountain rescue costs — check that your cover includes backcountry skiing in Kosovo, Albania and Montenegro.
