The Accursed
Powder
Traverse
You don't visit the Accursed Mountains. You cross them. Six days of self-powered hut-to-hut ski touring from Kosovo into Albania and Montenegro: 800–1,200m of ascent a day with a pack, no lifts, and a freeride descent every day.

The Accursed Powder Traverse is Snowbusters' most adventurous expedition — a hut-to-hut crossing of the Bjeshkët e Namuna, the wild Prokletije or Accursed Mountains, from Kosovo into Albania and on to Montenegro over six touring days. It is a point-to-point mountain expedition where the skiing is how you cross the range, through terrain far outside conventional ski tourism.
This is ski touring as it was meant to be done. Expect 800–1,200 vertical metres of climbing a day on touring skis or splitboard, followed by descents through varied terrain — open alpine bowls, gladed forests, steep couloirs and rolling meadows. No snowcat, no resort, no groomed runs: no lifts, marked pistes or resort infrastructure anywhere on the route.
Each day ends in a traditional shepherd hut or family-run mountain shelter, with a wood fire and a meal the group cooks together from provisions stocked in advance.

Move through the mountains, not back to the same base. A point-to-point journey between traditional huts in remote valleys — the classic high-mountain expedition format.
Skin up in Kosovo, freeride into Albania and cross into Montenegro — over the borders on your own power, with no lifts and no shortcuts.
No lifts, no cat, no shortcuts: 800–1,200m of climbing with a pack on each of six consecutive touring days, and a freeride descent to the next hut.
The summit day, conditions permitting. Skin from the hut to Kosovo's highest peak, then descend around 1,100m back into the mountains.
Shepherd huts and family-run mountain shelters, stocked before you arrive. Wood fires, group cooking with local ingredients and basic sleeping quarters: simple, and part of the expedition.
A genuine six-day test of a touring and freeride setup: climbing, traversing and descending in real mountain conditions.

Land in Kosovo, Enter the Mountains
Fly into Pristina International Airport (PRN), Kosovo's main gateway, for the shared transfer — a scenic 2.5-hour drive to the Accursed Mountains. The group meets, kit is checked and touring equipment is fitted, followed by a full route briefing and avalanche safety session. The traverse starts tomorrow at first light from the Kosovo side of the range.
Skins On — The Traverse Begins
A short drive to the trailhead and the traverse begins. The first touring day climbs from the pine forest through open snowfields to the first high hut — around 800m of ascent and a significant freeride descent into the upper valley. Companion rescue drills in the morning snowfield before skinning. First hut night.
Into the High Zone — The Range Opens Up
The second touring day pushes deeper into the Kosovar high plateau — the vast open terrain above the treeline that makes the Accursed so unusual in European freeride. A longer ascent to 2,200m, a ridge traverse with views to Albania and Montenegro, and a descent to the second hut at the base of the Gjeravica massif. The mountains feel genuinely remote by now.
Gjeravica 2,656m — Skin to Kosovo's Roof
Conditions permitting, Day 4 is the summit push — skinning from the hut to the 2,656m summit of Gjeravica, Kosovo's highest peak, with views across three countries. The descent is around 1,100m of high-alpine terrain back to the hut zone. The traverse's physical and emotional centrepiece.
The Border Crossing — Skis Across the Divide
The defining day of the traverse: a morning skin to the Kosovo–Albania ridge, then the long, north-facing descent into the Albanian side of the Accursed Mountains. Tonight's hut is deep in the Valbona valley. You've skied from one country into another, and everything looks different now.
The Second Crossing — Albania to Montenegro
The traverse continues northwest — a second border crossing, this time from Albania into Montenegro through the Prokletije, the Montenegrin name for the Accursed Mountains. The terrain changes character here: more dramatic and cliffy, with limestone breaking through the snowpack. Tonight's hut is in a remote Montenegrin shepherd valley, the most remote night of the traverse.
The Last Skins — Montenegro to the Valley
The final touring day descends from the shepherd hut to the village of Vusanje — the traditional endpoint of Accursed Mountains expeditions. A morning skin to the last high point, then a long, meandering descent through changing terrain: open snowfields, then forest, then the valley. At the bottom: a vehicle, a road and the end of the traverse, with a celebration dinner to close the week.
From the Mountains Back to the World
Final breakfast together, a group debrief and the quiet satisfaction of having crossed three countries on your own power, then the return airport transfer to Pristina (PRN) for your flight home.
Remote Terrain.
Serious Preparation.

Remote. Three Countries. Serious Safety.
This traverse crosses remote, unpatrolled terrain in three countries, where professional emergency response may be hours away. That is why every participant needs full avalanche equipment and companion rescue capability, and why the guide makes every route and go/no-go decision.
We aim to run the traverse with a Snowbusters guide (Jany or Adam) together with a local guide.
The route, including the Gjeravica summit and both border crossings, depends on the conditions. The guide adapts the line and the daily distance to the snowpack, the weather and the group.
Travel and medical insurance is not included. We strongly recommend Alpenverein (Austrian Alpine Club) insurance — valid internationally, including Kosovo, Albania and Montenegro, and covering helicopter rescue.
