Essential Gear for Ski Touring and Freeride Skiing

Before embarking on your ski touring adventure in Sunnmøre Alps, it's important to have the right gear. Here are some essentials:

  1. Ski Touring Skis: These skis are specially designed for uphill climbing and downhill skiing. They are lightweight and have a touring binding that allows your heel to lift while climbing.

  2. Skins: Skins are attached to the bottom of your skis to provide traction while climbing uphill. They have a special adhesive that sticks to the ski base and prevents you from sliding backward.

  3. Avalanche Safety Gear: Safety should always be a top priority. Make sure to carry an avalanche beacon, shovel, and probe. These tools will help you locate and rescue someone buried in an avalanche.

  4. Backpack: A backpack with enough space to carry your gear is essential. Look for one with straps to attach your skis when bootpacking uphill.

  5. Clothing Layers: Dressing in layers is crucial to regulate your body temperature. Invest in a good base layer, insulating mid-layer, and waterproof outer layer.

  6. Helmet and Goggles: Protect your head with a helmet and ensure clear vision with goggles that have good UV protection.

Remember, quality gear is an investment in your safety and enjoyment on the slopes.
