Fancy five days of off-piste skiing or snowboarding? Of course you do! Whether you are experienced at freeriding or are new to the joy of skiing away from the piste, you can join Snowbusters Freeride Camps to take your skiing or snowboarding in a new direction.
As with any Snowbusters adventure, we won’t just teach you the skills you need, but we’ll immerse you in the ski lifestyle. By the end of the trip you’ll understand ski culture and what drives the Snowbusters team to keep heading into the mountains.
Snowbusters Freeride Camps are designed for groups of up to 12 people. All camps include one or two (depending on numbers) UIAGM mountain guides or local guides with required certification plus a ski coach. This way we can provide an individual approach to coaching for every skier or snowboarder, whilst being flexible and providing maximum safety.
The camp is open to all physically able-bodied skiers and snowboarders who have the desire to head away from the managed slopes. Previous freeride experience is not required, but you should be a competent skier or snowboarder, plus it’s an advantage if you have already laid a few turns in powder.
Safety & Avalanches
During the week will spend a lot of time learning about safety in the mountains. Specifically, how to avoid an avalanche through understanding conditions, reading snow profiles and simple snow stability tests. You’ll learn how to perform an avalanche rescue if things go wrong along with some useful first aid.
Although there is some theory, most of it is taught in real life situations on the mountain. Snowbusters will demonstrate how to organize a group avalanche rescue and you’ll take part in plenty of simulations. This includes multiple backfilling, digging victims and hypothermic treatment.
Plus of course we will ride as much as possible. We will teach techniques for skiing and snowboarding in powder to help you become a better rider.
